Physicians

In 1983, Dr. Benedetto opened the Dermatologic SurgiCenter at 12th and Locust Streets, the first privately operated certified ambulatory surgery center in Philadelphia.

 

In 1992, the 2nd Dermatologic SurgiCenter was opened in Drexel Hill, PA. Both the Center City and the Drexel Hill ambulatory surgery centers are certified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania & the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (MMS), as well as by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).

Anthony V. Benedetto, DO, FACP

Dr. Anthony Benedetto, after completing his internship, residency and surgical training at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, returned to Philadelphia in 1978 to begin his practice in dermatologic surgery. He was the first physician in Pennsylvania to practice Mohs surgery for skin cancer.  Dr. Anthony Benedetto is the founder and medical director of the Dermatologic SurgiCenter in Philadelphia and Drexel Hill, PA.  He serves as director for the ACGME-accredited Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Procedural Dermatology fellowship at the Dermatologic SurgiCenter, and is a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the Perelman School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Anthony holds membership and committee positions in many dermatologic societies and is currently the North American Vice President of the IACD, Secretary/Treasurer of the History of Dermatology Society, Secretary General of the NACDS, and Immediate Past President of the ISDS.  He is on the Editorial Board of SkinMed, and the Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery and an Associate Editor of the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology.  He was named ‘Dermatologist of the Year’ in 2009 by the Pennsylvania Academy of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery.

Dr. Benedetto has authored or co-authored 69 articles in peer review journals, 14 chapters in textbooks, and a comprehensive textbook on botulinum toxins.  He frequently lectures at national and international meetings and enjoys traveling with his wife, Diane and spending time with their four children.

Ernest A. Benedetto, MD

Dr. Ernest Benedetto completed his Internship and dual residencies in Internal Medicine and Dermatology at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio.  He returned to Philadelphia in 1990 to complete a Fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology and join his brother at the Dermatologic SurgiCenter in the practice. He is the Assistant Medical Director of the Dermatologic SurgiCenter and its two accredited Ambulatory Surgical Centers.

Dr. Ernest is an Attending Staff Dermatologist at Mercy Fitzgerald Medical Center and Crozer-Keystone Health System – DCMH Division.  He is a volunteer faculty at the Crozer-Keystone Family Practice Residency Program where he has been acknowledged as a recipient of the “Outstanding Teaching Attending Award of the Year.”  He is also frequently recognized for Volunteer Staffing of Skin Cancer Screenings in our area.  He is an author and co-author of several articles in the scientific literature.

He is a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Medical Association, American Academy of Dermatology, American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, Pennsylvania Academy of Dermatology, Philadelphia Dermatological Society and The College of Physicians of Philadelphia.  He has also served on the Board of Advisors for the Philadelphia School Boys Rowing Club.  He enjoys spending time with his wife, Cassandra and their three children.

Dr. Matthew McEwen

Dr. Matthew McEwen grew up in the Kansas City, Missouri area and attended Southwest Baptist University for his undergraduate studies. He completed medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, TN, where he graduated with highest honors. He stayed in Memphis to complete his internship and dermatology residency training at the University of Tennessee, where he served as a chief resident in his final year. Following graduation, he moved to the Philadelphia area to work at the Dermatologic SurgiCenter. Dr. McEwen is board-certified in dermatology. He is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. Outside of work, Dr. McEwen enjoys spending time with family, hiking, reading, and watching sports.

Dr. McCoy

Dr. McCoy grew up in Spokane, WA. He completed his undergraduate education at Brigham Young University in Utah with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. He went to medical school in Milwaukee, WI at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed an internship at the Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals transitional year program at St Joseph’s Hospital and then his Dermatology residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He moved to Philadelphia and worked for 1 year practicing general dermatology here at the Dermatologic SurgiCenter and is currently the Mohs fellow in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology. Dr. McCoy is married and has 4 children and in his free time enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, playing and watching sports, and listening to music.
